The State of Alaska faces major challenges.
We have declining resource revenues, shifting state priorities and populations, plus a rapidly changing Northern environment and ecosystems as Earth’s climate warms.
There’s no roadmap for these issues before us. To address our challenges, we need research — big ideas, complex and collaborative thinking, and brave imagination.
There are bright spots. Greater access — technologically and geographically — to the state of Alaska. Increased interest in our stunning natural landscapes and marine environments. And our population’s bold and flexible personalities.
University of Alaska research is the single entity best positioned to identify, understand, predict and communicate the circumstances faced by our state’s economy, industries, and natural environment, UA’s research enterprise has long contributed to a better, more sustainable future for all Alaskans.
UA research generates nearly $5 for every dollar in state university funding. Not only does this money stay in the state and multiply further across Alaska’s economy, but it also serves to develop smart, direct, inclusive solutions to our complex short and long term challenges.
Alaska Futures aims to demonstrate the widespread, positive, practical impacts our research work has on our state’s path forward. Working with Alaskans to move us all forward: that's University of Alaska research.
We are here to help.
We'll be adding more information and stories about the usefulness of research throughout the state in the coming weeks.
